Waste paper collection and recycling services

Baguio is one of the EPD’s waste paper collection and recycling services programme contractor to provide economic incentives* to purchase waste paper that meets the specific quality standard (including cardboards, newspapers and office papers which are dry, and not contaminated by water, other impurities and waste) from the frontline collectors for recycling.

  • Paper cups and plates
  • Carton boxes for food, shoes and eggs
  • Photographs
  • Toilets paper, tissue, hand towels
  • Waste paper types that are not listed or of which recyclability is uncertain

Clean and proper recycling of 3 types of paper

  • Newspaper, books and magazines´╝Ütear off the plastic coated pages, keep dry 
  • Office paper: remove plastic tap, paper clips and other non-paper materials, keep dry
  • Cardboard: remove plastic tap, keep dry

Recycling process and usage of recycled paper
The collected waste paper is delivered to Baguio’s waste paper recycling centre and carry out screening, sorting and baling locally and then exporting the waste paper to the Mainland or overseas (e.g. Southeast Asia) markets for recycling to paper products, thus turning waste into resources.

*A price which is not less than the designated recovery price of waste paper (i.e. not less than HK0.7/kg from Oct 2020 to Mar 2021, and from then on the price will be adjusted every 3 months according to the actual export price of waste paper in the market).
