Baguio is dedicated to continually expanding our waste management and recycling services. By integrating vertical and horizontal growth strategies and leveraging latest smart technologies, we ensure that our recycling processes are not only highly efficient but also environmentally sustainable. Currently, Baguio operates six recycling facilities locally, which handle everything from collection and sorting to pre-processing and conversion of waste into usable materials. This comprehensive approach solidifies our capabilities across the entire recycling spectrum and establishes a vigorous competitive advantage in the industry.

Our facilities manage a diverse array of recyclable, including glass and plastic bottles, animal waste, and yard waste. Our goal is to offer a one-stop solution for waste management that enhances the recycling value chain and furthers the objectives of a circular economy.

Waste Glass Bottle Recycling Plant

Location: Tuen Mun, Lung Kwu Tan
Area: 25,000 square feet
Operational Since: 2018
Services: Sorting, crushing, and grinding waste glass bottles into shards for further recycling

Processing Capacity:

Storage Capacity for Waste Glass Bottles: 1,500 tons
Storage Capacity for Glass Cullet: 1,500 tons
Maximum Crushing Capacity: 100 tons per day

Processing Technology:

The plant employs the patented Australian glass bottle crushing system Implosion System, whose crushing technology Krysteline has patent registration in the U.K. This technology efficiently breaks down glass bottles into specifically sized cullet.

Green Product:

Glass Sand (Raw Material)

Facility Features:

Equipped with a 24-hour monitoring system linked to a security control center to ensure safe and efficient plant operations.
Features a wastewater treatment facility that combines activated sludge and membrane filtration technologies. This system is used in the barrel cleaning area to maintain cleanliness and hygiene, effectively reducing water pollution and conserving water resources.
The Krysteline technology enhances the efficiency of the crushing process.

Environmental Education:

The plant includes an education center.
Guided tours and receptions for groups of up to 30 people are available.
Lectures and field visits regarding glass bottle recycling and circular reprocessing are offered.
These educational programs aim to increase public understanding and participation in recycling processes, raising awareness and engagement in environmental conservation.

Glass Sand Green Sandbag

Plastic Recycling Facility

Location: Eco Park, Tuen Mun
Area: 65,000 square feet
Operational Since: 2022
Services: Recycling and processing of waste beverage bottles made of PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) and personal care product bottles made of HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) into food-grade quality rPET and premium rHDPE flakes, used as raw materials for high-quality consumer and industrial products.

Processing Capacity: Up to 60 tons per day of PET/HDPE waste plastics.

Processing Technology: Advanced optical sorting machines classify bottles by type (PET or HDPE) and color based on the principle of spectral reflection.

Facility Features:

The first facility to produce near food-grade recycled plastic.
Annually processes and recycles 35,000 tons of local waste PET and HDPE plastics.
Environmental measures include wastewater treatment equipment, solar photovoltaic panels, and a recycled thermal energy heating system.

PET and HDPE Bottle Recycling Process:

Bottles are uniformly fed into the processing line in bales.
Metal impurities are removed using a magnetic separator, followed by sizing the bottles.
Labels and contaminants are stripped from the bottle bodies.
The bottles undergo wet cutting, crushing, and a dual heat washing process to achieve food-grade specifications.
Optical sorters perform quality checks, and vibration troughs screen for appropriately sized flakes.

Product Quality:

Each batch of products undergoes monitoring and testing in an in-house quality control laboratory.
Ensures that product quality meets the highest standards.
Extends the life of recyclable plastics.
Supports sustainability goals.

Biochar Production Plant

Location: Tuen Mun Eco Park
Area: 37,000 square feet
Operational Since: 2023
Services: Recycling wood waste, including garden waste, wooden pallets, and sawdust, into biochar
Processing Capacity: Up to 15 tons per day
Processing Method: High-temperature decomposition
Environmental Products: Biochar, Wood Vinegar

Process:

Preliminary Sorting: Manual and magnetic devices remove non-wood materials at the initial sorting stage.
Drying: The dryer, powered by a charcoal-fueled system, processes about 500 kg of raw materials per hour, with a maximum capacity of 2 tons per hour. A spiral belt in the machine helps regulate temperature.
Pyrolysis: Through an oxygen free high temperature pyrolysis process, wood waste is transformed into biochar.
Gas Treatment: Harmful substances in the gases produced during the pyrolysis are eliminated through a high-temperature thermal oxidation system before being released through a chimney.
Cooling and Condensation: Substances in the hot gases liquify during the cooling process, forming a by-product—wood vinegar.

Product Features:

Biochar: Known for its porous nature, low density, and high surface area, biochar is effective in adsorbing substances, making it ideal for soil improvement.
Benefits: It enhances moisture and nutrient retention and regulates soil pH.
Applications: Biochar is utilized in agriculture, horticulture, and as a building material.

BioChar

Waste Sorting and Recycling Centre

Location: Fanling Kwan Tei
Area: 35,000 square feet
Operational Since: 2014
Services: Compression baling; waste auditing and confidential material destruction

Daily Processing Capacity: Up to 20 tons of waste sorted per day

Processing Methods: Manual sorting and compression baling; equipped with 4 large-scale destruction machines

Facility Features:

Equipped with 4 large-scale destruction machines capable of destroying a variety of materials including paper, metal, wood, glass, and plastic, meeting European security standards P4 (6x25mm) or P5 (2x15mm).
Capability to conduct waste audits.

Environmental Education:

Features an educational center open to various groups for visits.
Enhances public understanding and awareness of recycling operations.
Raises public environmental consciousness and promotes active community participation in sustainable development.

Waste Plastic Pre-Treatment Sorting Centre

Location: Ha Tsuen, Yuen Long
Area: 50,000 square feet
Operational Since: 2021
Services: Pre-treatment and sorting of local plastics types 1-7
Processing Capacity: Up to 20 tons per day
Processing Technology: Utilizes near-infrared technology to sort plastics, including PET and HDPE among types 1 to 7

Facility Features:

High-speed, fully automated plastic sorting equipment
Equipped with three near-infrared sorting lines
Facilities include compression baling machines and foam polystyrene melting machines
Specialized in processing local waste plastics types 1 to 7
Capable of sorting up to 1,080 tons of plastic per month, equivalent to processing approximately 60,000 plastic bottles per hour

Technical Advantages:

High throughput with the capability to sort up to 1,080 tons of plastics monthly, translating to around 60,000 plastic bottles processed per hour
Simultaneously sorts three different types of plastics, enhancing both sorting efficiency and the recycling rate of targeted materials to over 90%
Compressed and baled plastics facilitate easy transportation and further processing by downstream recycling operations
Enhanced operational efficiency meets the increasing demands for recycling capacity

Ngau Tam Mei Animal Waste Composting Plant (AWCP)

Location: Ngau Tam Mei, Yuen Long
Area: 67,000 square feet
Operational Since: 2008
Services: Collection of horse manure waste from the Hong Kong Jockey Club(HKJC), combined with local yard waste to produce organic soil conditioner for agricultural and horticultural use
Processing Capacity: 40 tons
Processing Technology: In-vessel composting method
Environmental Products: Organic Soil Conditioner - BGSoil (Certified by Hong Kong Organic Resources Centre Certification Limited)

Processing Steps:

Preliminary Processing: Stable waste is transported to the pre-treatment facility within the composting plant for moisture content testing before being placed into the feed hopper.
Separation: Iron and non-iron metal separators, as well as trommel separators, remove ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, and plastic materials from the waste.
Composting: The waste is then shredded and conveyed to an enclosed drum composter for a three to four-day biodegradation process.
Curing: The semi-mature compost is transferred to a composting shed where it undergoes a maturation process for 42 to 45 days, transforming into high-quality organic soil conditioner, commonly referred to as BGSoil

Technical Advantages:

Controlled Conditions: The design effectively controls moisture and temperature to ensure the stability and efficiency of the compost quality.
Reduced Additive Use: The process minimizes the use of additives, enhancing the purity of the final product.
Odor Management: Odors produced during the process are captured by the sealed system and effectively controlled through an activated carbon filter, mitigating any environmental impact.
