Acknowledging our Climate Footprint

共用圖片/檔案 - Greenhouse_Gas_Emission

In 2023, our business operations generated a total of 10,567.15 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent greenhouse gas emissions, including direct emissions of 9,965.81 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent from fuel consumption (Scope 1) and 601.34 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent from electricity consumption (indirect emissions - Scope 2). The amount of fuel consumed and the efficiency largely depended on the nature of contracts, terrain, and the number of trips made in that year. During the same year, the major new contracts awarded included street cleaning and waste collection, leading to increased use of vehicles with higher fuel consumption (such as water trucks and garbage collection vehicles).

Greenhouse Gas Emissions in 2023

Our carbon emission and energy consumption intensity reduction target by 2030 compared to the 2016 baseline is 30%. In 2023, Baguio's carbon emission and energy consumption intensity were 4.54 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per million Hong Kong dollars of revenue and 16.5 thousand kilowatt-hours per million Hong Kong dollars of revenue, representing a decrease of 32.24% and 32.61% from 2016, respectively. This marks Baguio's consecutive achievement of surpassing our carbon emission and energy consumption intensity reduction targets.

Baguio's Carbon Emissions and Energy Density Over the Past Three Years

The group has identified that the main source of carbon emissions comes from our operational fleet. We are actively exploring new energy sources, including hydrogen and biodiesel, and taking several measures such as improving fleet management and monitoring fuel consumption to enhance vehicle efficiency.

Water Conservation Measures at the Glass Bottle Recycling Plant

Necessary water conservation measures have been implemented at our glass bottle recycling plant to reduce water consumption during the cleaning of collection bins. We have installed a wastewater treatment facility that combines traditional activated sludge technology with membrane filtration technology to treat wastewater, which is then used for site or bin cleaning. The facility was installed and put into operation in January 2024.

Waste Management

Our group generates hazardous and non-hazardous waste in the course of its operations. In 2023, we produced 3,306 kilograms of hazardous waste and approximately 37,965.5 kilograms of non-hazardous waste. Hazardous waste includes lubricating oil and vehicle batteries, which are safely transported and disposed of by licensed chemical waste collectors. From the non-hazardous waste generated in office and recycling facility operations, 6,249.7 kilograms of recyclables were sorted out, achieving a recycling rate of 16.5%. The remaining non-recycled non-hazardous waste was properly transported to landfills for disposal. Our aim is to achieve a non-hazardous waste recycling rate of 60% by 2030 and contribute to creating a zero waste Hong Kong.

Starting from 2023, we began collecting kitchen waste in the office. The collected kitchen waste is transported to the Organic Resources Recovery Centre Phase 1 (O · PARK1), where anaerobic digestion technology is utilized to convert it into biogas for electricity generation.

Collecting Used Red Packets

In addition to collecting used red packets and sending them to Greeners Action for redistribution and reuse, in 2023, we also promoted the reuse of red packets. Employees were given new red packets in advance to prepare for giving out red packets on the first working day after the Lunar New Year. This initiative saved approximately 10,000 new red packets.
