Smart Waste Collection
The newly designed smart recycling bins are equipped with various Internet of Things (IoT) devices, including smoke detectors, fill-level sensors, self-diagnostic systems, anti-pinch sensors, and more. Real-time data collected from these IoT devices is transmitted to a central big data platform for analysis, providing valuable information and alerts.
Our smart food waste recycling bins are also equipped with cutting-edge technology, such as optional odor control intervals, built-in cameras, and solar charging. These features help ensure hygiene and track recycling data in real-time. The smart kitchen waste recycling machines also feature various effective deodorizing devices, such as ozone generators, timed deodorant sprayers, UV germicidal lamps, etc., to reduce odors associated with collecting kitchen waste, providing users with a better experience. These machines offer an efficient and environmentally friendly solution for kitchen waste management.
Promoting the circular economy in innovative ways
In terms of green operations, Baguio is committed to seeking opportunities for upgrading and remanufacturing, advocating the concept of "local collection, local recycling, local utilization." Our eco-sandbags are a prime example of our remanufacturing efforts, with their exterior made by our partners and filled with glass sand produced by Baguio's glass bottle recycling plant. We engage the Chinese YMCA Hong Kong 's Home Sheltered Workshop to help us manufacture these sandbags. Through such collaborative relationships, we aim to share our contributions to the circular economy while providing meaningful work for our community.
Turning Waste into Energy Initiative
Baguio collaborates with Green Island Cement Company Limited to shift the fuel source from coal to plastic. We convert non-recyclable plastics (excluding PVC) into regrind pellets, which are used as supplementary fuel in the cement combustion process, reducing fuel consumption and waste volume sent to landfills.
Smart Waste Collection
In 2023, we successfully installed multiple smart recycling machines in 18 districts across Hong Kong, totaling over 100 segregated bins.
